Caucasus University has many years of experience in implementing doctoral programs. The university has been implementing a doctoral program in economics for several years together with foreign partners. After the establishment of the doctoral school, an English-language doctoral program in economics was created within the school in accordance with modern standards and requirements.

The Doctoral Program in Economics is a third-cycle program of higher education and its goal is to prepare researchers who will have the theoretical and analytical skills to plan and conduct independent research in economics.

The program is focused on preparing researchers in the field of macroeconomics, and at the same time, the goal of the program is for the graduate to possess full-fledged knowledge in the field of microeconomics. The program is focused on enabling the graduate to engage in intellectual activity and analyze and evaluate various academic works. The goal of the program is for the doctoral student to be familiar with the ethical norms of research and to be involved in professional activities. The graduate of the program will be awarded the academic degree of Doctor of Economics.

Program structure

The academic year is structured according to the semester principle. All study components are one semester long. A semester is a period of time that includes a set of study weeks. A study week includes both contact and independent hours. A semester can include a period of 2 or 16 calendar weeks. The number of study weeks in a semester is determined individually for each intake.

The doctoral program in economics consists of teaching (60 ECTS credits) and research components (at least four academic semesters). The teaching component includes mandatory training seminars, methodological subjects (34 ECTS credits), an elective seminar (6 ECTS credits) and a teaching-assistance component (20 ECTS credits). The program includes two elective seminars, one of which the doctoral student must choose. The research component is presented in the form of a dissertation. Before defending the dissertation, the doctoral student is obliged to participate in a scientific conference (present a conference paper in person) on the topic of the dissertation.
