MASTER OF PUBLIC HEALTH & HEALTH POLICY PROGRAM – MPH
The aim of the program is to contribute to the development of human capital in the field of public health, to attract and raise high-level professionals, and to create an environment focused on the success of each student. Promote equal access to public health and healthcare through collaboration with various partners.
The program aims to train sector professionals with in-depth and systematic knowledge and skills of necessary and modern standards in the field of public health and policy for improving the health of individuals, groups and populations, and to be able to hold leading positions in public and private organizations, both local and international level.
The program curriculum draws on current and emerging knowledge in the fields of epidemiology and population’s health, environmental health and socio-economic determinants of health, health economics and policy and finally on the Global health issues affecting our planet, countries and communities.
The program is designed to meet the requirements and standards recognized by the Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region (ASPHER), as well as international analogues.
The graduate:
- Has in-depth knowledge of public health system, its needs and current issues in a local and/ or global/ international context;
- Is able to conduct health research independently using research methods and skills (including selecting conceptual models / frameworks, developing research questions, designing research, selecting data collection and measurement methods, data collection and analysis using statistical or qualitative methods, and communication and dissemination of research results.
- Thinks systematically and is able to plan actions / interventions necessary for public health and relevant resources; can identify needs for new / changing policies and software interventions based on cultural-social and population diversity, develop medium or long-term sustainable policies, strategies and programs, and assess their impact on population health.
- Is able to find and synthesize the evidence needed to make public health decisions, as well as to identify their communication patterns with stakeholders; Can develop separate interventions and system strategies for decision advocacy and collaboration between sectors.
- Understands and uses high standards of ethics in public health research, evaluation or policy/intervention/program planning and delivery/implementation process.
- Will be able to identify the needs for professional development and plans appropriate actions for strengthening professional competencies going forward into profession.

Program objectives

Admission Requirements to the Program
Admission to the master’s program is based on the results of the general master’s exam and the internal university exam. The international applicants are accepted based on order #224/n of the Ministry of Education and Health (December 29, 2011) The applicant wishing to apply for the master’s program should have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in the following disciplines:
• Public health
• Social work and consulting
• Natural sciences, social sciences, or management or qualify as a medical doctor
All applicants are required to:
• Submit TOEFL certificate (with a minimum of 75 points) or IELTS (with a minimum of 6 points). If the applicant does not have the above-mentioned certificates, he/she will be required to pass the English language test administered by the University.
• Submit GMAT (with a minimum of 550 points) or GRE (with a minimum of 260+3) certificates. If the applicant does not have the above-mentioned certificates, he/she is required to pass the exam in quantitative and symbolic analysis administered by the University. The exam in quantitative and symbolic analysis is assessing the mathematical skills of the applicant, the ability to read, analyze, understand and interpret the information (situations, cases) presented in tables, diagrams, or formulas.
• Submit the application and a motivation letter in English
• Submit professional CV which among others, should include information on the GPA received during the previous education or mean rating point
• Pass internal university oral exam

Evaluation
The assessment is conducted using a 100 point system. The points are distributed and allocated as follows:
(A) 91-100 Excellent
(B) 81-90 Very Good
(C) 71-80 Good
(D) 61-70 Satisfactory
(E) 51-60 Sufficient
(FX) 41-50 Unsatisfactory – meaning a student needs more effort to pass an examination and is given an extra chance to pass an additional examination through independent work.
(F) Failure – 40 and less of the maximum of grades, meaning the student’s effort is not enough and he has to learn the subject anew.

The graduate can be employed in: governmental, non-governmental and international organizations working on public health and health policy issues, as well as in academic, scientific positions at higher education and research institutions, both in Georgia and abroad.
